| Today the students began working on their Animal Classification Menus. The Tree Map activity (Appetizer) is to be completed by all students as a prerequisite to their menu choices. Today it was so neat to observe the students researching the characteristics of each vertebrate group (mammals, birds, fish, amphibians, reptiles) and to listen to their discussions and discoveries. I checked out over 20 books from the school and public library to help the students with their research. I am quite sure that researching with their group will prove to have much longer-lasting effects than just taking notes from the board. The highlight of the day for me, was watching some students choose to go to our pet frogs' tank (T.L.C. aka Tastes Like Chicken) and observe the frog to identify characteristics of amphibians (2nd picture on left) instead of using a book. Again, simply amazed by your...my kids! |
